FROM THE DESK OF

Local 70 Members,
Education is the Key to a Sustainable Future!
It is a fact that the better an Operating Engineer’s skill, the better his/her chances of securing and maintaining a job. It’s also a fact that in today’s job market there are plenty of jobs to choose from. The individual’s proficiency, diversity of skill and grade of licensure will help in obtaining a lifelong career in the Stationary and Maintenance Engineer field.
The Phrase at the top “Education is Key to a Sustainable Future”, is one that I learned when I entered this field and have used many times when speaking with members and the employers that we have contracts with. It is a true statement, the more you know the more you are worth, the more your employees know the better your facility will run and the longer your equipment will last.
The International Union of Operating Engineers built the training center in Crosby Texas with the Idea of becoming the best training center in the country. The stationary training side of the center has grown in the last four years in attempt to provide training to stationary engineers across the country on all the equipment and systems that our members are responsible for repairing and maintaining.
If you haven’t signed up for classes there, I encourage you to go to our web site, iuoe70.org and follow the prompts to see what classes are available and register. Take advantage of an opportunity that is available to enhance your proficiency in the job you have chosen. Come back and educate your fellow members and your employer on what is available to you through your Union.
I cannot say enough good things about the training center, and I cannot explain all that it has to offer in one page. When you go to our website, look at the video for stationary training at ITEC, look at the schedule, its not only for new engineers there is opportunities for refresher training for senior engineers as well. Take advantage of the opportunity that has been provided.
In Solidarity!
